  • While global Internet advertising spending is expected to have risen 84% from 2005 through 2008, small advertisers will drive an increasing share of that money according to a ZenithOptimedia report and Media Life Magazine.
    "Advertisers from smaller categories have been spending more than average on Internet advertising, which is relatively cheap and can be targeted very effectively," says the report. "This makes it suitable for smaller advertisers, for some of which mass-media campaigns would be too expensive and have too much wastage."
  • Smaller advertisers mean more efficient ad buying. A recent comScore report notes that Local Search is continuing to drive online traffic for consumers looking for local goods and services.
  • According to the latest report from Borrell & Associates, local online advertising will grow to a $7.7 billion category in 2007, reflecting 31.6 percent growth over 2006. According to Borrell "even the tiniest and most remote markets are seeing local businesses experiment with Internet advertising." Seventeen large markets will see more than $100 million spent by local businesses. Real estate, automotive, travel/entertainment, health care, and recruitment are the two categories that show the most promise. Newspapers are going aggressively after online revenues.
